So, this July, I'm sitting in a circle of VCU students (not that there's anything WRONG with that), in the middle of a group interview for a position at the Short Pump Urban Outfitters and Lindsey, our interviewer and a store manager, asks us "If you could be one celebrity -- and you would have had to live their whole life -- the good and bad, who would you pick?"
I'm immediately thinking well this interview is over unless I think of someone way cooler than my real answer. Lindsey has purple hair, tattoos everywhere, was in a touring band for 9 years - just a super cool girl and every part of me wants to impress her. I'm frantically trying to think of someone - anyone else - who will past the Urban Outfitters cool test.
Let's all take a minute to remember I am a 32 year old woman.
I'm the last to go. Lindsey's been thoughtful and gracious in her reactions to everyone's responses and I'm like, well, #yolo, I reckon. "Hands down, forever and always, I choose Taylor Swift." There, I said it.
And Lindsey immediately lights up and jumps out of her chair, talking about "That's MY ANSWER! No one EVER chooses her! She's AMAZING" and she and I proceed to have an incredibly animated personal conversation about Taylor Swift for a hot minute during a group interview.
A nice reminder to not second guess yourself and trust your instincts.
And also that Taylor Swift is a magical unicorn who gets girls jobs and brings people together.
